HangTime at Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park.

Choose Disneyland or Knott’s Berry Farm by what your children actually want to do, the rides they can board and the total cost for your dates. Disneyland suits a trip centered on Disney characters and stories; Knott’s in Buena Park offers a different mix of family attractions and thrill rides. Neither park is automatically the best choice for every age.

Compare the activities your children can actually use

Build a shortlist of five desired experiences at each park before buying tickets. Record each child’s current height and any accompanying-adult requirements from the operator’s ride pages. A cheaper day has little value if the child’s three must-do rides are unsuitable. Do not treat a separately ticketed evening event or water park as automatically included in general admission.

For an Anaheim home base, Indoor Playground lists 12 guests, four bedrooms, two bathrooms, indoor play and a backyard hot tub. It gives the group something to do on a non-park day, but does not remove the need to supervise play or plan a route to either park. Compare both parks from the selected home, not from central Anaheim.

Ask each child for three priorities

Start with interests rather than a general label such as “good for kids.” A five-year-old may care about a character, a gentle ride and a playground-style break; a teenager may prioritize coasters. Check the current attraction lists and height requirements before promising either park.

What matters most Compare at Disneyland Compare at Knott’s

Younger children Gentle options, rest needs and walking Camp Snoopy options and height rules

Do not compare only the headline ticket price

Build each option with the same number of travelers and the same date. Include parking or transport, meals and any optional queue or ticket extras. Check what the base admission includes and what costs more. A promotion may have date restrictions or terms that make it unsuitable for your trip.

Disneyland planning also includes checking the current reservation requirements. At either park, save the ticket conditions and cancellation or change rules before payment. Our family budget planner gives you categories that can be used for both options.

Think about the youngest child’s afternoon

Compare what the family will do when one child needs a break. Does the group have two adults who can separate? Would returning to the accommodation consume most of the afternoon? Can everyone accept a shorter day if the toddler runs out of energy?

The answer may favor the park that has more of your group’s priorities close together, rather than the one with the largest overall attraction count. Review the map after making the priority list and remove long cross-park transfers where possible.

Check seasonal events separately

A regular daytime visit and a separately ticketed evening event can have different hours, admission and suitability for children. Do not assume a ticket includes both or that a Halloween event is designed for the youngest members of your group. Read the operator’s current event description for your dates.

Similarly, an attraction or show mentioned in an older guide may be unavailable during your stay. Use the live operating calendar to build the final plan, keeping one substitute activity in mind for each main priority.

If you want to visit both

Give each park its own day. A lighter day between them can help when the group includes younger children or grandparents. Do not call the second park a rest day simply because it is a different venue.

For a short trip, choose the park with the strongest shared priorities and keep the other for another visit. Our non-Disney day guide offers lower-energy alternatives when you want a change of scene without buying another full park day.

Choose accommodation after the park plan

Compare the routes from Anaheim homes to the park you will visit most. Game Room Estate and AN5 offer different home features for the hours between outings. Review the room plan, total quote and parking before deciding; a title’s driving estimate should not determine the whole trip.
